Teen Opportunities for Engagement

9th-12th Grade Religious School

9th-12th graders gather on Tuesdays from 6pm-8pm, starting with dinner. At the first gathering of the month, teens engage in our Moving Traditions Tzelem program, a safe space to explore the social and emotional aspects of teenage life through a Jewish lens. During the second half of the year, teens will participate in a project-based learning program created in partnership with the Washington State Jewish Historical Society.

This year, all 8th-12th graders have the opportunity to participate in a trip to San Francisco. 11th & 12th graders also have the opportunity to participate in the social justice trip to Washington, D.C.

Our 8th graders alternate years with trips to Los Angeles and San Francisco. During the jampacked and fun weekend to Los Angeles, we celebrate Shabbat at Beit T'Shuvah, visit the Museum of Tolerance, hang out at the beach, and there is even time to fit in a visit to Universal Studios.

8th Grade San Francisco Trip

Our 8th graders alternate years with trips to Los Angeles and San Francisco. During the unique trip to San Francisco, we visit the Contemporary Jewish Museum, visit some of San Francisco's historic Jewish spaces, and more!

10th Grade Washington, D. C. L'taken Trip

Our 10th graders have the unique opportunity to learn about Jewish values, social justice, and political action. With 10th graders from TDHS we travel to Washington DC participate in L’Taken. The program exposes high school students to a variety of public policy issues, guides them to explore the Jewish values surrounding these issues and teaches them the skills to be an effective social justice advocate. The weekend culminates as the teens meet with members of Congress to share their views on social justice topics. More information about L’Taken can be found here.

9th-12th Grade Youth Group

BTY (B'nai Torah Youth) is our 9th-12th grade youth group where teens can have fun and be Jewish together. BTY is active and thriving in the TBT community, with regular events, social gatherings, and service opportunities. BTY provides our TBT teens with opportunities to engage in leadership to help grow our youth presence at TBT. We have monthly gatherings that we’re currently holding virtually, including lounge nights and Havdalah events. Please reach out to Eden Geisser for more information.

Our 9th-12th graders are invited to participate in our madrichim program as teaching assistants. All madrichim receive community service credit and 9th-12th graders receive a small stipend. For more information, please contact Rabbi Molly.
