Social Action Committee Relaunch

One of my favorite things when I interact with people at temple is the amazing diversity of ways that we
understand what it is to be Jewish. Something else I love is that even though we may vary across so
many customs, priorities, and observances, one thing that we all seem to agree on is the importance of
tikkun olam, the healing of the world. It is hard to imagine being Jewish in a way that separates us from
our sense of responsibility and joy in building the kind of community we want to live in.

Although our Social Action Committee has been on hiatus, the work of dedicated temple members has
continued. They have been tackling issues from feeding the hungry, to caring for the needs of venerated
elders, to promoting environmentalism, to supporting refugees, and much more. We can be very proud
of the way TBT continues to be represented in the community by the dedicated congregants who make
this vital work possible.

The relaunch of the Social Action Committee presents us with an opportunity to improve the way we
communicate. We are developing ideas to keep the whole congregation up to date about the many
ways that TBT members are doing great things to support the needs of the community. The
committee’s first goal is for every TBT member to have regular updates. As you learn more about the
numerous ongoing projects our temple community is engaging in, you won’t be able to help but feel
proud—I know I am! My other hope is that by keeping us all informed, it will inspire us to dream about
the possibilities of a better world, and what role each of us can play. Therefore, the second goal of the
committee will be to keep TBT members informed about a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. This
year, may each and every one of us find a personally meaningful and rewarding way to answer the call.

Stay tuned!
