Sisterhood Reproductive Justice - Assemble Post Abortion Care Packages & Speaker from SYA

Sunday, November 19, 2023 6 Kislev 5784

1:00 PM - 3:00 PMSocial Hall

TBT Sisterhood has kicked off our year-long project supporting Reproductive Justice and participation is open to all TBT members. We will work in partnership with Cedar River Abortion Clinic. We are supporting patients receiving an abortion from this outstanding healthcare facility with a gift bag filled with essential and comforting items along with words of support.

The bags will be filled with items such as maxi-pads, herbal tea, hot packs, cocoa, unscented lotion, nut-free snacks, pharmacy gift cards and a written note. Items can be purchased here and will be sent to Robin Plotnik to collect. We are also asking for $10 gift cards to Target or CVS to include for items like Tylenol, which can be dropped off at the TBT office or brought to our November 19 package assembly event.

We will gather on November 19 from 1-3 to assemble gift bags and welcome a speaker to educate us on Reproductive Justice.

Information on our guest speaker: Amelia Bonow is the co-founder and Executive Director of Shout Your Abortion (SYA), a nationwide organization working to normalize abortion and elevate paths to abortion access regardless of legality. In 2015, Bonow’s abortion disclosure inspired a viral outpouring of abortion stories on social media, receiving front-page coverage from The New York Times, LA Times, and major media the world over. Bonow left her graduate program and built SYA into a grassroots movement and a non-profit organization, which has produced a range of creative work, events, demonstrations, and campaigns. In 2017, Bonow coedited SYA's eponymously titled book, which was featured on The Daily Show and currently sits in the waiting rooms of hundreds of abortion clinics. SYA’s website received the Webby award for Best Activist Website in 2017, and Bonow has been honored by filmmaker Michael Moore, the Abortion Conversations Project, and abortion clinics all over the country. Bonow is proud to serve on the board of directors of Abortion Care Network, a national organization which represents independent abortion providers.
