Let's Talk About Israel: Goshen Film Screening and Conversation
Sunday, June 11, 2023 • 22 Sivan 5783
4:00 PM - 7:00 PMSolomikeJoin us for an evening of cinema, dinner, and discussion as we delve into the complicated Israeli-Palestinian conflict!
Rabbi Molly's husband, Noah Weisel, will screen his MFA thesis film, Goshen, an intimate, science fiction drama centered around an unthinkable yet all too believable near future Diaspora -- one where Israel has fallen and escaped Zionists are hunted.
Grounded in its characters' search for meaning and justice (with captivating performances by Pacific Northwest talents Zoe Rose Curzi and Arkira Chantaratananond), Goshen imagines a complex, fraught and shifting landscape which mirrors the layered difficulties of the conflict itself. The 25-minute film will serve as a platform from which to dive deeper.
With the help of Rona Frank, those attending will be guided through a small-group thought experiment on ways to avoid a fate like the one Goshen imagines, or one of the even more likely futures that Israel and the Jewish Diaspora currently face.
The evening will conclude with thoughts from Dr. Zieva Konvisser, a scholar of trauma and wrongful conviction and author of Living Beyond Terrorism: Israeli Stories of Hope and Healing.
Please accept our invitation to an evening where you will be challenged to think, to debate, and to hope!
This program costs $15 per person and includes dinner.
We don't want finances to be a barrier to participation. If you are in need of a scholarship, please contact Rabbi Molly.
