Kedoshim Tihiyu (You Shall Be Holy): Spiritual Activities for the Day of Awe
Monday, September 25, 2023 • 10 Tishrei 5784
1:30 PM - 3:00 PMYom Kippur afternoon is an opportunity to explore the meaning of atonement, faith, struggle, and hope–the themes of this day.
We do so with a choice of activities for the body, mind, and spirit...
Activity #1: “Four Faces of Jonah” Discussion led by Rabbi Molly Weisel
Using Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz's new commentary on the book of Jonah, we'll examine four different aspects of what makes Jonah such a compelling and relatable prophet and how he might help us think differently about our year ahead.
Activity #2: Moving Our Bodies With Prayer led by Irene Pasternack
Reset your body into comfort and ease…in a uniquely Jewish way. Irene will guide you through a classic Feldenkrais Method® lesson, using the movements of traditional davening to make it easier to go from sitting to standing and to relieve stiffness and pain. You'll learn fun ways to apply Torah study techniques to keep your body feeling limber and strong.
Activity #3: Preparing a Meal to Serve to the Hungry led by Donna Blankinship & Andy Held
Take your mind off your own hunger by thinking about people who are hungry every day. We’ll be in the temple kitchen cooking a meal for our friends at Tent City 4. We’ll talk while we’re cooking about ways we can support Tent City 4 year round and how we can accomplish other social justice work in the area of homelessness.
Plan on staying with us for 75 minutes of exploration.
