Meet Rabbi Molly Weisel

TBT's New Associate Rabbi & Religious School Director

The board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of the clergy search committee and hire Rabbi Molly Weisel to be our associate rabbi and run our religious school, starting on July 1. We are thrilled to welcome Rabbi Molly home.

As you may be speculating, Rabbi Molly Weisel is also known as Rabbi Molly Plotnik. Weisel is her married name and her preference going forward. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and almost entirely for reasons other than the fact that she is the daughter of Robin and Darryll Plotnik and grew up in our community.

“I’m thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as associate rabbi of Temple B’nai Torah. It’s an honor to return home to the place where my Jewish journey began and to help a new generation find their Jewish path,” Rabbi Molly wrote after signing the contract to be our new rabbi.

Rabbi Molly is an experienced and creative educator who has led a much larger school of 250 students at Peninsula Temple Sholom in Burlingame, Calif., through a time of transition and transformation. She is a warm and approachable rabbi with whom members of all ages will be comfortable sharing the difficult moments of their lives. She has a lovely voice and will add to the musicality of our community. And Rabbi Molly is a brilliant administrator who will ensure the success of our educational programs from birth through adulthood, while taking some of that responsibility off Rabbi Sydney’s plate. And that’s not all. Rabbi Molly also led the B’nai Mitzvah program at her current temple after the long-time cantor retired, and she loves to chant Torah and lead text study. She interned as a hospice chaplain and previously worked at Camp Kalsman.

“Having been in rabbinical school at HUC with Rabbi Molly and already knowing what incredible talents she possesses, I was thrilled to see that she was interested in coming home to serve her TBT family,” Rabbi Sydney said. “I think she is the perfect compliment to our team and cannot wait to see what new heights we can hit with Rabbi Molly onboard to help revitalize our beloved Temple B’nai Torah.”
