Lay-lead or Clergy-led Torah Study
We meet weekly at 9 a.m. each Saturday morning year-round, except when Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur falls on a Saturday, in the Youth Room to discuss the Torah portion being read at services that day. The choice of a translation and commentaries is up to each participant. Clergy from TBT and other synagogues near and far occasionally join us and are always welcome but there is never a designated leader. Our discussion emerges organically. For those who want to explore the Torah portion of the week with guidance from our clergy, the Clergy-led Torah Study also will be available at the same time (Contact: Jeff Schwartz, jschwartz@a.templebnaitorah.org).
Mah Jongg for Beginners (Peggy Loshin)
Originated in China, Mah Jongg involves skill, strategy, and calculation, as well as a certain degree of luck. While played by all ethnic backgrounds, many consider the modern American version a Jewish game, as many American mahjong players are of Jewish descent and players usually use the American game as a social activity, not as gambling. Learn this fascinating while getting to know other TBT members. Meets first and third Mondays at 10:30 am (Contact: Peggy Loshin, ploshin@a.templebnaitorah.org).
Men's Dine-A-Round (Monte Zwang)
The Dine-o- round Activity is a special interest group composed of Brotherhood members and their friends who meet the third Thursday of each month at a different restaurant selected by the participants. There are separate checks. Menus are made available in advance. Men RSVP if they are able to attend. No one is expected to attend all dinners. Average attendance is 8 men. Lively conversation and light a light hearted spirit dominate-- so it’s a great way to make friends and forge new social and business connections (Contact: Marty Glass, mglass@a.templebnaitorah.org).
Men's Poker (Skip Wayne)
Interested in an evening of bluff and kibbitz? The TBT Brotherhood poker group is a once-a-month gathering of men who enjoy varied games of poker. Stakes are very low ($10 buy-in) and "split pots" and wild cards are commonly played. In other words, we're not playing much "hold 'em" and the players don't expect to make or lose much money. We meet at a player's home, changing locations every month. Generally on 3rd Thursday's around 6pm- 9pm. (Contact Skip Wayne, swayne@a.templebnaitorah.org).
