Traditionally, a synagogue serves three distinct but related functions. We are a
Beit Tefillah (House of Worship), a
Beit Midrash (House of Study) and a
Beit Knesset (House of Community). Being part of and connecting to the Temple B'nai Torah community is being part of the Beit Knesset. Each of us, as members of our Temple Community, has the opportunity to help create meaningful Temple membership and vibrant Temple life. Our simple efforts can be a powerful force to bring us together. There are many ways to connect with your Beit Knesset - explore our Beit Knesset section further for ideas!Should you have any questions about the Temple B'nai Torah Beit Knesset, call the Temple office at (425) 603-9677.
Ways To Get Involved
Baby Boomers: If you were born between 1942 & 1958, this is the group for you! Join in the fun with others of your generation. We're thinking of a 60's bash in November - does that appeal to you? Help plan our events for the coming year - we need your ideas. Contact
Barb Walzer to get involved.
Chavurot: A Chavurah is a small group of Temple B'nai Torah families, couples, or individuals who share common interests and a desire to gather together on a regular basis in order to develop their own closeknit Jewish community, an extended family within our larger congregational family. For more information about our Chavurah program, please visit our
Chavurot webpage.
Community Shabbat Dinner: Welcome Shabbat as a community at TBT every 3rd Friday night! Enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by other TBT members and served family style. Meet new people and leave the cooking to us!
Want to help with the cooking? If you would like to get involved contact
Sally Sweet. You'll have lots of help with the prep & serving, so don't be shy!
Crossroads Community Dinner: Looking to do a Mitzvah but don't have time to volunteer? Please consider donating a grocery store gift card to the Temple. Volunteers will put the card to good use cooking dinner for local homeless families at the Crossroads Community Dinner on the second Tuesday of each month. Simply drop the gift card off at the Temple office or email
crossroads2ndTuesdays@a.templebnaitorah.org with any questions.
Mentor Program: Do you remember what it was like to be a new member in our community? Sometimes it was confusing or awkward walking into services or an event not knowing anybody. Would you like to join the Mentor Program to help make the transition from new family on the block to engaged family in our Temple community? If you are interested in more information email
Marty Silverman. We need you! You will be helping others...it's a mitzvah!
Mitzvah Corps: The Temple B'nai Torah Mitzvah Corps is you - the congregation - responding to the needs of your neighbors in times of change or crisis. It is providing meals or challah, visiting members who are ill, providing transportation to medical appointments or to worship services, helping with childcare, and making phone calls offering support and condolences. Through these, and other
mitzvot, members become acquainted, and in many cases, become friends.
You can be a part of the Mitzvah Corps, and make a difference in the lives of many of our congregants in need. To find out more about joining Mitzvah Corps, email Michele Inishi and Robin Negrin at
Mitzvah Corps. By giving and receiving, we create a sacred, Caring Community.

Shamashim/Usher Training: Would you be interested in greeting congregants and guests at our Shabbat Services or other events? You can volunteer once, twice or more! Steve Rolfe will provide a training session on September 14, 2008. Just in time for the High Holy Days! For more information email
Steve Rolfe.
Silver Swingers: The “Silver Swingers” are a diverse group of Temple members, relatives & friends who meet once a month for an adventure to explore the cultural, social and physical bounties of Seattle and the Puget Sound region. Rather than “Seniors”, “Elders”, or “Oldtimers”, we picked the title of “Silver Swingers” to denote an aggregation of mature, active, participating folks interested in social affairs with a Temple connection. We have no strict age limits, so if it sounds interesting, come join us.
We usually carpool from Temple to events off-site. Because many people no longer drive at night our “adventures” are scheduled during daylight hours. Many of us are also available to pick up those needing transportation from home. Some past events have included trips to art museums, lunch and a movie, an afternoon of humor and more.
Social Action Committee: Visit our
Social Action page for information about upcoming Social Action projects.
TBT@HOME: TBT@HOME is looking for hosts! Most of the work could be done on your schedule from home via email or some phone calls. Contact
Gloria to host a TBT@Home.
